About Stef
Stef King is a multi-award-winning photographer from Perth, Western Australia. Her work regularly appears in local and international magazines, advertisements and media campaigns.
With a focus on creative photography, Stef's feminine and natural style of photography come from the approach that every subject has a spark: "Every person in front of the lens has a story to tell, and I aim to draw that out in a single frame. It’s the in-between moments I look for on a shoot. That's where I try to find the magic."
Growing up in the remote coastal towns of Australia's west coast, the vast and isolated terrain offered the perfect environment for her young imagination – full of stories and characters – to run wild. During this time, as fortune would have it, a young Stef found her way to her dad's old film camera hidden amongst the dust in his traveling boxes, and it was here, holding this tiny metal box in her hands, that her love affair with photography began. This camera was the beginning of a journey of discovery and inspiration, the vehicle that would allow those stories and characters to come to life.
Creativity, dreaming and storytelling have always been close to Stef’s heart, so in 2017, when the Walt Disney Company invited her to conceptualise and shoot a series of images celebrating the power of dreaming, helping kids garner the courage to make their wildest dreams come true, she leaped at the chance. Shot in Perth, her hometown, the series of images was launched on International Day of the Girl.
Stef’s personable, relaxed demeanour, combined with her ability to bring out the inner strength and beauty in women, has made her one of WA’s most favourite advertising and editorial photographers. Today she has photographed some of Australia’s best and brightest talents, from politicians and celebrities to athletes and supermodels, including Julie Bishop, Melissa George, Jessica Rowe, Jessica Gomez, Megan Gale and Nicole Trunfio.
Her assigned brands include Nikon, WelleCo, Bio Oil, the Walt Disney Company, Crown Casino, Morrison, Tony & Guy Australia and Sodashi Skincare. Stef’s photographs have appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, the Australian Financial Review Magazine, the Sunday Times, The Times UK, Crown Hotels, Crystal Magazine.
